SmartInstall provides a very
efficient means for distributing software products to yout
clients and customers. This tool combines any number of
associated files into a single package that can be managed and
delivered as a single entity. The resulting installation package
is highly compressed to minimize file transfer and download
times, as well as reducing storage requirements. In addition, the
software installation package created with SmartInstall
guide the recipients through the potentially complex installation
process.
You, the software developer, determine which
files, folders, and registry entries on the
client's computer are to be used for installation or which may be
optionally uninstalld. The small size of the resulting
installation file provides an important advantage for
distribution over the Internet. In addition, a comfortable
yet flexible user interface makes SmartInstall an
indispensable means for distributing your software products.
The operation of SmartInstall
version 1.5 is controlled by the following four pages:
- Project Page - For specifying
the installation project file and the name of the output
installation file.
- Installation Page - For
providing a general description of the project and
definition of installation characteristics.
- Component Page - For specifying
the types of installation, installation files, and
registry entries.
- Dialog Page - Summary of the
dialog controls and real-time preview.
Initially, only the Project Page is visible. The
remaining project control pages become active only after a valid Installation
Project File has been specified. A complete description of
the installation project is specified by entering information in
each of these three pages. The final output installation file is
generated using the magic wand icon at the bottom of the SmartInstall
window.
