Overview of the Dialog Page
This page makes SmartInstall unique among software installation tools because
it enables you to preview each step of the installation as it will be seen
when the actual installation is performed.
You can select the language from the Language Module, and
you can check off any of the check boxes in the installation dialogs which
will guide users through the installation of your software.
The installation dialogs are fully functional, allowing you to
simulate the entire installation process within the
SmartInstall environment, except that no file or registry
operations are performed on your computer.
For each of the following installation dialog pages, additional
information may be entered in a data entry field below the preview window:
- Freeware info: In the "Enable-Password" box, enter
the character sequence you have received from Markus Pfau
specifically for the current installation project.
- Welcome Bitmap: Enter to the file name of the bitmap image
to be shown in the installation dialogs.
This may be entered directly into the input field, or you may
select the file with help of the File Open button located to the right
of the data entry field.
To preview the selected image, press [Return] after specifying the name
of the image file.
- License Agreements and Read-Me File: Enter the names
of the text files containing the material to be presented in the license
agreement dialog page and a "Read-Me" file for the user to read after
completing the installation process.
The name of this file may be entered manually into this input field or
you can select the file with help of the File Open button located
on the right side of the data entry field.
The Rich Text Format is currently not yet supported for the license
agreement, so please be sure to select a plain text file without formatting.
To preview the license text, press [Return] after specifying the name of
the file with the license text.
- User information: This option allows you to control whether
or not the user must enter a serial number in order to perform the
installation.
- Custom Setup: Listbox Bitmaps are not yet supported.
- Advertisement images: Advertisement images are not yet supported.
- Restart Computer: SmartInstall shows this dialog only if you check the "Always" Radio
or one or more files to update were in use during the installation (and could therefore not be overwritten).
SmartInstall stores all entries in the Registry under
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AppName\Ver#\.INSTALL",
where "AppName" and "Ver#" are replaced by the values specified in
"Name of Application" and "Version" on the
installation page.
